Notes from the Melody Maker

When I remade Carlotta’s wardrobe a few months back, I fondly remembered my own Dream World doll, Carole. At the same time my sister received Carlotta, I was given Carole. The two dolls came from a family friend but we really don’t know much about them. Carlotta was dressed as a bride and Carole dressed as her bridesmaid.

When I was a girl I did make a dress for Carole out of some sprigged cotton. It was not great, but I figured out how to do it with no patterns to guide me!

These days of course, I use patterns. When I was planning Carlotta, I knew that eventually I would locate Carole. (She had been put “someplace safe” and in a different shoebox than she had been in for years.) so I had in mind what I wanted to make for her and even started looking for fabric.

I’ll be using two vintage McCall’s patterns for Carole – 1089 and 910. These patterns are from 1943 or earlier. The 3 digit number might predate the information available on the internet because Google says this number doesn’t exist in the McCall’s catalog. I’m not really sure.

Yes, I am side tracked from Anna Tudor. I just want to work with Carole and get her all spiffied up. I will go back to Anna, I promise. But until then I hope you will check back and see how the new wardrobe evolves.
