Pretty Storage Box

I was recently accused of being “extra” but I don’t know if that’s accurate. You decide!

When I first took on the project to redress Carlotta, I knew I’d need a new storage box. She had lived in a shoebox for as long as I can remember, along with another doll called Purple Lady. But, the shoebox was easily 50 years old and couldn’t protect Carlotta the way I wanted. So I went to my local discount store to find a new box. While there, I had the most amazing idea.

What if I could make one of those doll storage boxes like the old Barbie Travel Case boxes??

My mind went off…

A hanger bar…

Hangers…

Drawers…

A display stand…

I found a box I liked for her (pink of course) and then went home to draw the ideas.

Now, let it be said I learned a lot during this project and one of those things I learned is that this isn’t exactly as easy as I thought it would be! but, Carlotta approves and that’s all that matters.

First I added some partitions.

Then I was going to make drawers out of cardboard but then I remembered my husband has a 3D printer. We designed them so I could put a drawer pull on them.

This really made the project come together more like I envisioned!

I used vintage buttons for the drawer pulls and they look so cute!

Also, how sweet are these hangers he printed??

The last few accessories finally came together.

This is a garment bag I designed to hold the veil, net petticoat and panties from the wedding dress outfit.

I found a seller for tiny hair clips and put the bows onto those.

Finally, Carlotta and Purple Lady have a safe new home for the next 50 years. They went home with my sister to be enjoyed and loved. This was such a fun project. One day, I’ll make another doll storage box for my Dream World doll and I’ll be sure to share it with you! Scroll down for a little movie showing the box.
