Today Melody had her two month check up. First, the good part. She is in the 97th percentile (just what does this mean??) for her height and weight; she is ahead on milestones such as holding up her head and other motor skills; and she is doing great in terms of eating and sleeping. The doctor was very pleased with her growth, too. At 8 weeks and 1 day, Melody weighs 13 pounds, 13 ounces and is 24.5 inches long. Yes, she is firmly in the 3 month size range, but that’s okay with us. Now for the bad part. She received five shots today. Even though the nurse was incredibly fast with the injections, Melody still was hurting and upset after the whole thing. Thanks to Auntie Tara for tipping me off not to look at her face. I felt so bad for her! She has her daddy’s pout, that is for sure, and she let everyone in the office know she did not think this shot business was very fun. Fortunately she has calmed down and no side effects have shown up so far. Whew! She’s a little crabby tonight, but hopefully that will ease up soon. Some rocking in Daddy’s arms is just what she needs.
It wasn’t until I became a parent that I finally understood the phrase “this is going to hurt me more than it hurts you…” When Burke got his first shots, he cried for 30 seconds. I cried for 30 minutes. LOL! I was really embarrassed until Iseri told me they always worry about the mothers who DON’T get upset. Whew!
Sounds like she is right on track. Good girl, Melody!
Burke has always been in the 97% too…they are a great match! It basically means out of 100 babies her age, she would be bigger than 97 of them.
Glad to hear she is on track with everything. You were guessing 13 lbs on Easter. No wonder that child wasn’t happy with 4 oz anymore! She’s still the cutest neice on the planet. I’ll carry her around for as long as I can.
